I think when I was in Central America I found the first couple of Gossip Girl books in a big market with a used book section. I got them and while they’re not classical literature, they were fun.

I ended up reading a couple of The Clique books there, too, and actually want to read all of both series now haha. Today I decided to make a whole list of books like Gossip Girl, both the book series and the show.

If you’ve never read the Gossip Girls books before, you can find the whole series order in this post, along with the low down on the spin-offs.

I love Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, things like that. I would say this kind of teen drama iis my guilty pleasure. Other series’ like The Clique and The Au Pairs are just perfect bad teen drama that would probably not hold up that well being written today.

So, here is a giant list of books to read if you like Gossip Girl, both the books and the show, though I’ve read the books are much better.

  • If you want to listen to some of these, consider trying Audible! You can get your first month free (one free book) plus tons of others they have for free.  Get that Audible deal here.
  • If you’re on more of a budget, try Scribd!  You can get your first month free there. You can read books and listen to audiobooks. It is unlimited (especially the reading) but if you listen to tons of new audiobooks you may be restricted after a few. I don’t listen to enough to confirm this, but I do use Scribd myself and like it a lot. Sign up for Scribd here!
  • Shop my collection of bookish goodies on Etsy! These aren’t my shop items, but other shops I’ve curated into a book-themed collection. Shop my Etsy bookish goodies here!
  • If you want to read more on your Kindle but don’t want to buy books, Kindle Unlimited is a wonderful option. It’s $9.99 a month but if you read a lot and like to read more than just new releases, it could be worth it. Get Kindle Unlimited here!
  • Get $5 off of $25 from BookOutlet! This is a great place to find new books for pretty cheap. They also have sales quite a bit, so keep an eye out for those. I tend to check here for books I want if they’re more expensive other places. They don’t have everything but they do have a lot. Shop BookOutlet here!
  • Thrift Books has become my go-to when I’m looking for a book and want it cheap. It’s great if you like buying used books. With this you can get a free book after spending $30!
  • Shop my book lists here! You can find every book list I have on Bookshop.org (except my monthly round-ups) and I add everything I can but they occasionally won’t have some. I do occasionally add extras though. If any lists are empty, they’ll be filled in shortly! Shop my bookshop.org book lists here.

The It Girl

This is one of the Gossip Girl spin-off series, so if you want books like Gossip Girl, this is as close as you can get. Jenny Humphrey is leaving the city for horse country to attend Waverly Academy, a prestigious boarding school.

She has big plans to reinvent herself, leaving her city life behind. It’s going to be harder than she thought thanks to her new roommates who only help if there’s something in it for them. But she’s ready to do whatever it takes to be the new It Girl.

The Carlyles

This is the other Gossip Girl spinoff series featuring the Carlyle triplets who are here to take Manhattan by storm. It will be another wild year full of juicy secrets.

I would like to read these, too, once I eventually read the main series. It looks like Gossip Girl is still in these books.

The Clique

Claire is the new girl, in Keds and overalls, who is clearly not clique material but while her family looks for a new home, she’s stuck living in Queen Bee Massie Block’s guesthouse.

Claire’s future looks bleak but with a little luck and a lot of scheming, she may make her way to the top with the rest of the clique.

The Heiresses

The Saybrook family is the epitome of high society but they’re also haunted by secrets and plagued by a streak of bad luck, and perfect Poppy is the latest victim. She threw herself from her office window and shortly after, the cousins receive an ominous note: One heiress down, four to go.

Loveboat, Taipei

Ever Wong’s parents send her to Taiwan from Ohio to study Mandarin for the summer where she finds herself among over-achieving students.

Little do her parents know they basically sent her to a teen meet-market nicknamed Loveboat where clubbing and snake blood sake is a higher priority than calligraphy and sacred sights.

If I’m Being Honest

Cameron is the queen bee at her private LA high school but when she slips up in front of her crush, any affection he may have had is gone and she has to win it back.

If she makes amends with everyone she’s wronged, he’s bound to notice. She starts with Brendan, but he isn’t quick to forgive. To her surprise, she actually enjoys hanging out with him and starts to wonder if may you don’t need to compromise who you are for the kind of love you deserve.

A Dangerous Year

Riley is the daughter of an American ambassador and has grown up in some of the world’s most dangerous cities. She gets caught up in a violent incident and the state department offers an all-expense-paid senior year at Harrington Academy, one of Connecticut’s most prestigious boarding schools. All she has to do is use her tactical skills to keep an eye on heiress Hayden Fraiser.

Pretenders

The five most popular students at Noble High all have secrets written in their journals and now one of them is exposing them all.

The Selection

The Selection is the chance of a lifetime for thirty-five girls to escape poverty in a rigid caste system while competing for the heart of Prince Maxon. But for America, this is a nightmare as it means turning on her secret love with Aspen. Then she meets the prince and the life she dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

I would classify this in that teen drama guilty pleasure genre. This series isn’t great but it is fun. I liked the last two books more than the main four.

Broken Hearts, Fences, and Other Things to Mend

After five years away from the Hamptons, Gemma is back after her perfect summer was ruined by being dumped. But now she’s at risk of bumping into her old best friend, Hallie. Gemma wants to make amends but mistaken identity causes Hallie, her dreamy brother Josh, and everyone else she knew to think she’s someone else.

This is a series and I would like to give it a shot! I love teen summer Hampton’s books though.

Anna K.

Anna K is at the top of Manhattan society with her perfectly boring boyfriend. She’s always made her Korean-American father proud while her brother and his girlfriend are thwarting a sexting scandal.

She sails above all pitfalls of normal teenage life until she meets Alexia “Count” Vronsky at Grand Central. He’s a bad boy who’s bounced between boarding schools and lived for his own pleasure, but neither of them have been in love. Until they met each other. Now she has to ask if she’s ever known herself at all.

Perfect on Paper

Darcy’s advice s spot on but her love life is far from it. One day Brougham catches her collecting letters from locker 89 where she’s been running her questionably legal anonymous relationship advice service. And now, to keep her secret, she’s agreed to become his personal dating coach, for a generous hourly rate, at least, to help win his ex-girlfriend back.

This one sounds really fun and I just added it to my wishlist!

Private

This is another series that reminds me of The Clique and I would definitely like to try it out. I expect the same trash teen drama from this and I mean that in the best way. Definitely worth a shot if you want more books like Gossip Girl.

Reed finally has the ticket out of suburban life with a pill-popping mother: a scholarship to Easton Academy. Once she gets there though, she realizes everyone is more gorgeous, wealthy, and sophisticated than she thought. She may have been accepted to Easton, but Easton has not accepted her. Until she meets the Billings Girls.

Pretty Little Liars

Everyone has something to hide, especially Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily after their friend Ali disappeared, but now someone is threatening to expose them in all the worst ways.

I’m currently working on a re-read of this series. I love it.

Dare Me

This one is a little more thriller than Gossip Girl, but it still feels like it could be a good one to read.

Addy and Beth have always been best friends. Beth calls the shots and Addy carries them out. This has brought them to rule the competitive cheer squad as seniors. The younger girls fear and follow them without question, until the new coach arrives.

Everyone but Beth is drawn into the new coach’s golden circle but when a suicide happens, the coach and her squad are under investigation. After the shock and grief wear off, Addy tries to uncover the truth and she learns the line between love and loyalty can be hard to see.

Jane, Unlimited

Jane was raised by her recently deceased Aunt Magnolia. It’s been pretty ordinary but without her, Jane is lost. She remembers her aunt telling her once that”If anyone ever invites to you to Tu Reviens, promise me that you’ll go.” That’s why she’s easily swept away by the invitation from a wealthy acquaintance from years ago.

What she doesn’t know, though, is that the house will offer her five choices that could determine the course of her life, but not matter which she chooses, they will lead her to the truth.

The Thousandth Floor

This book is like Gossip Girl but in the future. I honestly had no idea what this was about but from the first time I saw it, I knew I wanted to read it.

It’s 2118 and New York City is a city of innovation and dreams but not everything is as it seems. Leda looks flawless but belies a secret addiction, Eris’s life falls apart after a heartbreaking betrayal, Rylin is swept into a romance that may cost her her old life, Watt is a tech genius who knows everything about everyone, and above everyone else is Avery, the girl designed to be genetically perfect.

The A-List

Upper East Sider, Anna, is on her way to Beverly Hills to spend the school year with her estranged father while her mother travels around Europe.

On the plane, she has a little too much champagne and gets hit on by record producer Rick Resnick. Thankfully, Ben is there to save her. He invites her to a star-studded wedding where she meets her future Beverly Hills High classmates.

Have you read any of these? Which ones? Are there any other books like Gossip Girl I should check out?
