19 Perfect Fall Books To Cozy Up With In Cool Weather

I got this in my birthday book haul and cannot wait to read it! Two of my favorite bookstagrammers (Heyatlascreative and Crimebythebook) rave about it and it just makes me want to read it more!

A psychopath leaving behind a “chestnut man” made of matchsticks and two chestnuts is terrorizing Copenhagen. While investigating, they find a fingerprint of a government minister’s young daughter who was kidnapped and murdered a year ago.

No one is safe and two detectives have to put aside their differences to piece together the clues.

The Prophet’s word is law in Bethel which makes existing a blasphemy for Immanuelle Moore. Her family was cast into disgrace after her mother’s union with an outsider of a different race, so Immanuelle does her best to worship the Father, follow Holy Protocol, and lead a life of submission, devotion, and absolute conformity like all the other community women.

Soon, she is lured into the forbidden Darkwood, which happens to be where the first prophet chased and killed four powerful witches, surrounding Bethel after a mishap.

The spirits lurking there gave Immanuelle a gift that she never expected: her dead mother’s journal that reveals she once sought sanctuary herself in the wood. She is fascinated by the secrets in the journal and wants to know more about why her mother was consorting with witches. In the process she finds out dark truths about the Church and it’s history.

I think this one is pretty high on my fall TBR this year.

Winter didn’t want to be the guardian of the wood but she has no choice when her dad vanishes. She has to protect the travelers who accidentally slip through the portals.

The wood is poisoned though and soon the trees are bubbling inky black. Creatures that live there are becoming bolder and torturing lost travelers. With the help of Henry, a young man from eighteenth-century England who knows a little too much about the wood, Winter must find the truth and hopefully those they’ve lost.

I read this in November and loved it!

Alice, a documentary filmmaker, has always been obsessed with the disappearing residents of an old mining town, “The Lost Village.” The unanswered questions of the only two survivors of the tragedy have plagued her forever and now, with a crew, she is going to go find out what really happened.

Not long after setting up camp, weird things start to happen. Equipment breaks, people vanish, minds crack, and they realize one thing is for sure: they are not alone.

This one is definitely on my TBR. It’s like a haunted house, but a village. I dig it.

I read this last October and loved it so much! I think this is one of my favorites.

Samantha Mather and her stepmother recently moved to Salem, Massachusetts where they aren’t exactly welcomed with open arms thanks to their last name and it’s unfortunate connection to the witch trials. She becomes the target of a group of girls called The Descendants, yes of the other side of the witch trials.

As if that weren’t enough, she also encounters a ghost. A cute but angry ghost. Soon they discover that Sam is at the center of a centuries-old curse and now she has to find a way to get along with the ghost and The Descendants to help break that curse before it’s too late. I just read this and I loved it! If you want a witchy book that takes place in Salem, this is a great choice.

Annaleigh lives a sheltered life at Highmoor with her sisters, father, and stepmother.  There used to be twelve, but four of the girl’s lives were cut short, each death more tragic than the last, and the surrounding villagers think the family has been cursed by the gods.

Annaleigh is disturbed by a series of ghostly visions making her suspicious that her sister’s deaths weren’t really accidents.  Soon Annaleigh becomes involved with a mysterious stranger with secrets of his own.  It’s a race to uncover the darkness that has fallen over her family before it claims her next.

This one has been on my TBR for at least a year and it’s moving closer to the top this fall!

Paige is forced to move into a new house with her mom and brother in small-town Idaho after leaving LA.  They’re renting an old mansion and weird things start happening: one can of ravioli becomes 12, unreadable words are appearing on walls, and Paige’s brother is roaming the house at night.

Not to mention the downstairs neighbor who knows more than he’s letting on.  Paige starts investigating and finds out a cult used to conduct ritual experiments in the house.  This is a collection of letters, photographs, and journal entries all left behind in the harrowing aftermath.

I read this a few years ago then read their other two books and I think this was my favorite of them.

Audrey, her father, and her brother are on their way to her grandmother’s house in Ely, Nevada when they stop for the night at Hotel Ruby. They plan on staying one night but that turns into more.

However, the hotel is as strange as it is beautiful and Audrey soon becomes suspicious of the people they’ve been meeting.

I didn’t love this one but when I started reading it I thought wow, this is a good atmosphere so I think it’s a nice fall read.

Lizzie Lovett’s disappearance was the most mysterious thing to happen in Hawthorn’s town ever. Bad things don’t happen to girls like her. Hawthorn is convinced she’ll show up, she’s just not sure how. But then she comes up with a theory: Lizzie Lovett is a werewolf and now she’s out to look for proof with Lizzie’s boyfriend.

This one is very weird and I understand people not liking it, but I loved it and not taking the cover into account, it feels good for fall.

Robin has no idea what she’s getting into when she tags along to an epic party scavenger hunt. When things get going, they take a dark turn and Robin has to go against every rule she has to survive.

I read this in April and while it isn’t literary genius it’s a good creepy atmospheric read.

Nova is a teen witch that works at her grandmother’s bookshop, loaning out spell books and investigating supernatural occurrences in their town.

One night she follows reports of a white wolf into the woods and comes across her childhood friend, Tam, battling a demon in the woods as a werewolf.

Together, that take on the dark forces, rekindling their latent feelings.

I also read this in May and it’s the total opposite of everything else on here. It’s so cute and perfectly fall.

Makani Young thought she left her dark past behind her in Hawaii when her parents forced her to live with her grandma in Nebraska. Things aren’t all bad since she’s made friends and it falling for Ollie Larsson, at least until her classmates start turning up dead and there’s a serial killer on the loose. Now she has to face her own dark secrets to find out who the killer is.

Go into this one thinking it’s more campy than horror and it’s better. It’s not very scary but it is perfect for fall.

This is another perfectly cozy fall graphic novel on my TBR. I got it on a Kindle deal and really need to read it.

Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends since they work together every fall in high school at the best pumpkin patch in the world. Everyone Halloween they say goodbye until September 1 next year.

But it’s their last year here as seniors in high school and it’s their last goodbye, too. Their last shift seems like it will be sad, but what if they made it the best ever and tried all the food, saw all the sights, and finally did something about that crush Josiah has had for three years.

Xander is beyond disappointed when they move from LA to a secluded small town. But the Victorian house they’ve moved into and all its rooms have him, David, and Toria captivated.

Soon they discover something is off about the house. Sounds come from opposite directions, footprints appear in the dust, and when David hides in the linen closet, he ends up in locker 119 in his new school. Then the really weird stuff happens and they find themselves in far-off lands. But is it a dream-come-true or a living nightmare?

 Isobel is the best painter in Whimsy and makes a living painting portraits of a dangerous set of clients: fair folk. These immortal creatures can’t do any craft without crumbling to dust, but they crave human craft and make deals of enchantments in exchange.

When she receives her first royal Patron, the Autumn Prince Rook, she makes a mistake and paints human sorrow in his eyes. He returns, furious, and whisks her away for trial, but along the way they run into attacks on every side.

As they depend on each other so much, they begin to develop feelings for each other, maybe even love, though that is forbidden by the fair folks ruthless laws and could render both of their lives over.

I loved this one so much! It’s so perfect fall and almost wish there was another one.

Alice and her mother have spent most of their life on the road, running away from the bad luck that plagues them. When Alice’s grandmother, a reclusive author of cult-classic fairytales, dies on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice’s mom is stolen away by someone who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel world where her grandmothers stories are set.

Now Alice has to get her mother back and her only instructions left for her are “Stay away from the Hazel Wood.”

Two centuries ago in the town of Sparrow, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery and drowned in the deep waters outside of the town.

Every summer, the sisters return for three weak-hearted girls to get their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.

Penny has accepted the fate of the town but on the eve of their return this year, Bo, a newcomer, has no idea what he stumbled into. They suspect each other of hiding secrets as mistrust and lies spread through the town but Penny sees what others can’t and she either has to save Bo or herself.

I got this one on sale at BAM a few years ago and would love to read it this year.

I just got this one as I write this, actually, and like the rest here, can’t wait to read it!

Cynthia knows how to breathe life back into the farm with discontented bees, soil turned sand, and honeycombs stiffened to wax. It’s an artists’ colony with a free place to stay in exchange for tough work. Silvia and Ibrahim are drawn to Cynthia’s offer and soon, each other.
